New Upholstery - Bed Cushions

I finally started upholstering the cushions I lined about a million years ago.  Here are the three bottom cushions for the rear bed....only 7 more cushions and a few armrests to go....
The fabric is 100% cotton. I washed and dried it on the hottest temperatures in order to shrink it before sewing.  It shrunk a LOT, so I am really glad I took the time to do this.  It also made the fabric look and feel more vintage, and nubby.

Sewing on the welting using the zipper foot to get up tight against the cording.

Snip to ease around the corners.  I then go back and zig zag stitch all to secure against fraying.

It's not like i don't have "help".
My dog has been raised to believe the sewing machine running is a sleep aid.
He also thinks he is a cat. That is another issue.

First one is done!  Zipper closure at rear.  More photos of that later.

The three rear bottom "couch" bed cushions.
Now to get the rest completed....this tropical print it directional, and while it doesn't need to match up exactly to look okay...it is time consuming to cut out.  A lesson learned. No more directional prints!
More to come....soon I hope!

The New Old Fashioned Awning!

Altizer Sunblock Outdoor Fabric
"Peekaboo" in Chocolate
I ordered a total of 7.5 yards

Sewing the J Channel "rope" out of a piece cut from one strip the length of the fabric - The white stripe makes a good guide for me, and will go inside of the J channel and not be seen.

The first piece to be sewn will be the last piece to be sewn on the awning
Every piece was zig-zag bound to keep it from fraying, and double seamed.
This is the center seam - Two pieces, each 3 yards long were sewn together side to side (so that the white stripe lined up appropriatly with the design) and then sewn together with a flat felled seam

Getting ready to flip it over for the double stitched flat felled seam...
It looks like this on both sides, and I can't explain exactly how it was done.
Hopefully a picture IS worth a thousand words. ;)

The two pieces are one now.  The seam is at the center.
Close up of the zig zag at the scalloped edge -
it still needs to be bound.

Sewing the welt around the inside all along the seams for extra strength.
The flap piece is a double of the fabric  -
sewn in at each corner and at center where the grommets will go for extra durability.
The awning is installed in the J Channel - it went in perfectly!
I still have to buy one more tent pole, since it takes three now, instead of the original two that I thought it would require....and then I will pull it out in the yard to set it up.
The dimensions are 8.5 x 8.5 with a 10" drop on the scallop edge.
ONE MORE PICTURE of it all set up - to follow!

The New Wood Floor is Installed

Laying out the wood strips
Wood filler applied, going up the side wall

The dropped portion and it;s side walls are installed and filled
Now for some sanding fun

Close up of the wood after sanding
Not bad for LATHE, huh?
Yes Virginia, you actually CAN make a silk purse out of a sows ear...
it just takes a LOT of sanding!
I like it - it looks rustic, very "Adirondack", and it feels good under bare feet

I find writing all over my glue bottle keeps it from being appropriated by my husband...

The floor is sanded
Now on to the sides
Then I can seal it and move on to the "upper" floors

The Bed & Dinette Cushions

The bed area.
This is all of the foam with the lining fabric on it....this is not the
upholstery fabric - it is on order and will be here next week!

I had enough of the cotton toile left over from our daughters wedding
to cover the cushions here, AND in the Shasta.

When I include the backrests, armrests, and the dinette cushions
the total is FOURTEEN cushions JUST in the Adirondack!

...and I think I could use one more actually....hmmmmm.

The Adirondack Exterior is Painted - Back to it's original Color!

The green just was not working...it made the little Addie look like an army tank.

Now he is my little Christmas Trailer
The red is very close to the original color
To see the complete rebuild of the body see my other blog
It was back in 2007 or 2008 that he was completely torn down and rebuilt
There are a ton of pictures somewhere on the other blog....

The Interior to Date

Little Adirondack Travel Trailer - In Dry Dock
Coming Out of Storage
Interior - Rear Bed / Seating Boxes were built...
Two summers ago!
Trimmed out using wood from an old antique dresser
(the dresser was beyond repair)
Another view...in the sunshine.
The entire rear end - with plywood lids painted and shellac'd

One of the two dinette seat frames and lids
The Little Cabinet and Counter
The counter top used to be an old aluminum suitcase.
It was deconstructed and wrapped around the new counter top.
These are just the framed in bones - not veneered yet.
It will look better....and have a little door on the opening.
